2.20.06 - short vacation
so, the past few weeks have been mad hectic. i was able to come home for a short visit, went down to LA for a week, and back to the bay for a few days before coming back here to tokyo. i wish i could've had a few more days at home, but i was just happy to have a chance to be "back". people often ask me what i miss most about america is, so here are a few things i miss the most:
1. people - this goes without saying. it's hard not being able to see/speak/interact with people in person. email/aim/myspace/etc are great, but nothing beats face-to-face interaction.
2. food - don't gert me wrong, the food here is great! makes me really proud to be japanese. what i do miss are the things i love to eat back in the states that i can't get out here (or are just not the same). here's a short list of some of the stuff i wish i could get out here: mexican (esp. a good burrito mojado), pizza (zach's and round table's), bbq (everett & jones', claim jumper's), pastrami sandwich(the hat and togo's), hawaiian (island fried chicken and kahlua pork @ the loft), royal red robin burger, a good steak (ruth's chris), prime rib (hopr), belly buster from redwood keg, and of course... anything peter or candy cooks!
3. driving - i miss driving my car, but i don't miss driving in traffic. i miss being able to go for a drive when i need to clear my head. picking up friends and going places. not having someone hugged up on me on the train. being able to get to places without having to worry about train schedules, transferring, or luggage.
4. golf - *sigh* . . . that is all.
i'm back here in the mothaland now, and am prepared for the next chapter in my life out here. while i was back in the states, i got a visa that will allow me to stay here for 3 years. i'm excited about this because i can really focus on living here without worrying about whether or not i'll be here for longer than 3 months at a time. i'm excited about some of the ministries i'm getting involved in at church, and it was nice being back and seeing everyone yesterday. i'm still a little jet lagged, but i'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. more to come once i get a little more re-settled.

great is your faithfulness
great is your faithfulness
you never change
you never fail, o god
true are your promises
true are your promises
you never change
you never fail, o god
so we raise up holy hands
to praise the holy one
who was and is and is to come
wide is your love and grace
wide is your love and grace
you never change
you never fail, o god
you were, you are, you will always be
